TUCSON - Marlon Brent Evans, 56, of Tucson died July 28, 2009 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. He will be missed by family, friends, relatives and many people touched by his poetry and writings.

The wake will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Sunday at the San Xavier Community Building in Tucson with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6 a.m. Monday at San Xavier del Bac Mission with Father Stephen Barnufsky officiating. Burial will be in San Xavier Cemetery.

Mr. Evans, who was Akimal and Tohono O'odham, was born Oct. 8, 1952 in Phoenix, a son of Ronald D. and Carolyn B. Evans. He graduated in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in graphic arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He earned a second bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona in creative writing, poetry and media arts in 2006 and was working on a master's degree in American Indian studies at the UA. He worked as a printer in the newspaper business.

He is survived by two daughters, Faye M. Evans and Reta A. Evans, both of Phoenix; one sister, Pamela Johnson of Sacaton; one brother, Bernal J. Evans of San Xavier; two nephews, a brother-in-law and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
