Adelina Marin Casuga
February 27, 1926 - October 19, 2020
Born in Palompon, Leyte, Philippines to Vicente and Epifania Baylon Marin, eldest of seven children. Married U.S. Army Veteran Gerardo Flores Casuga after World War II in the Philippines. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1952. She leaves behind one daughter, Evelyn Casuga, (husband Jerry Stabley); one grandson, Justin Stabley; four siblings, Bonifacio Marin, Norma Alvarez, Alfonso Marin, (Ann Marin), Perla Vasquez, (Manuel Vasquez); numerous nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; and countless extended family members.
Adelina worked in the fruit packing houses and Manong Gerardo toiled in the fields of central California from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Their home served as a port of entry for family and friends arriving from the Philippines, striving to build a new life in America.
She was among a generation of Filipina War Brides who carried the coastal air of that distant place in her lungs, and breathed it into everything she built, into filling meals, a rich garden, and a sense of belonging. The foundation she and her generation planted in American soil with coarse hands now supports a thriving family that may carry on in her acutely felt absence. We will never experience the same great struggle, but hers will echo within us every day of our lives. J Warren Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
