STANFIELD — Alex "Big Al" Chogyuha Jr., 56, of Stanfield died on Feb. 9, 2013, at Banner Mesa Medical Center.
The wake will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the family home, with rosary recited at 7. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Mission in Blackwater by Monsignor Ed Meulemans. Burial will be in Blackwater Cemetery.
Mr. Chogyuha was born on Sept. 10, 1956, in Sacaton. He was a farmworker and was kind, friendly, generous and easygoing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to waila, Spanish and classic rock, especially the Beatles, and collecting and watching movies.
He also enjoyed watching and attending WWE events, Suns and Diamondbacks games and cage fights. He remembered people's birthdays with a card, cake or ice cream. He was a strong and hardworking man.
Survivors include his mother, Annie Chogyuha of Stanfield; two sisters, Rose Chogyuha-Gamez and Rita Chogyuha of Stanfield; two stepsisters, Amelia and Rose Garza; a stepbrother, Angolo Garza; and a son. He was preceded in death by his father, Alejandro Chogyuha Sr.; a sister, Teresa Chogyuha; and a brother.
