SACATON - Alfred Freddie Reams Jr., 54, of Sacaton died on June 2, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Phoenix.
Mr. Reams was born on Oct. 18, 1961, in Phoenix to Peggy (Milda) and Alfred Reams Sr. He graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1979 after wrestling and playing football. He also played trombone in the band, and he played in Sacaton, Salt River, Quechan and Parker bands throughout his youth.
He attended Phoenix College and Universal Technical Institute and became a certified diesel mechanic. He also completed a bachelor’s degree in ministry at University of Dubuque in Iowa and became a lay pastor for Presbyterian churches on the Gila River Indian Community. He loved to teach children at vacation Bible school and was a coin collector, photographer and gardener who loved to travel and visit friends.
Survivors include his father, of Sacaton; three brothers, Fernando Reams of Sacaton, Lyle Reams of Chandler and Selwyn Reams of Clarkdale; a sister, Fernanda Reams of Sacaton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the District 3 Service Center. The funeral will be at 6 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Sacaton, with the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating.
Burial will be in Sacaton East Cemetery.
