SANTA ROSA VILLAGE - Alfred Joseph Wood Sr., 69, of Santa Rosa died on April 11, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Mission, with a wake following. Burial will be early Tuesday in Santa Rosa Cemetery.
Mr. Wood was born on Oct. 25, 1944, in Santa Rosa. He graduated from Phoenix Indian High School and was a health transportation driver for the Tohono O’odham Nation for many years.
He also was a musician who loved to play his guitar and share music. He was well-known in the waila music world, playing early on with Santa Rosa Band and most recently with Frank Valenzuela & Company. He was a humble, loving, giving and caring person who loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife since 1966, Elena Rose Wood; three sons, Loren and Alfred J. Wood Jr. of Santa Rosa and Kermit Wood of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Marian Wood of Santa Rosa; his mother, Lolisa Wood of Santa Rosa; four brothers, Delbert, Leslie, Mark and Evan Wood, all of Santa Rosa; two sisters, Helen Wood of Phoenix and Juanita Carlos of Santa Rosa; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Buster Wood; a daughter, Adrienne Wood; two brothers, Steve and Louie Wood; and twin sisters, Josephine Wood and Mary Moristo.
