Alma Mae Johns, 82, peacefully passed away at her home in Blackwater on December 30, 2024. Born on January 20, 1942, in Sacaton, she was the daughter of Jasper Marrietta Sr. and Ida Mae Jose.
Alma was a devoted Christian and served as a minister, passionately sharing her faith and preaching throughout her community. She pursued her theological education at Cook College, where she deepened her commitment to her beliefs. An avid listener of Christian music and a lover of books, Alma's home was a sanctuary filled with literature and an array of treasured collections, including figurines, recipes, and puzzles.
In addition to her spiritual pursuits, Alma had a fondness for sports, particularly for the Phoenix Suns basketball team, and she enjoyed watching wrestling. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, and she cherished every opportunity to gather with her loved ones for special occasions.
Alma is survived by her four children: Cheryl Johns, Lorna Johns, Elwyn Johns Jr., and Brandon Johns; her siblings Linda Whitman and Frank Marrietta; along with 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwyn Johns Sr.; her parents; her daughter Erleen Johns; her son Donald Johns Sr.; her siblings Jasper Marrietta Jr., Marvin Marrietta, Simon Marrietta, Floyd Marrietta, and Roxy Marrietta; as well as her grandsons Justin Silas, Brian Johns, and Donald Johns Sr.
Alma's unwavering faith, love for her family, and passion for sharing the gospel will be dearly remembered and celebrated by those whose lives she touched.
