Alva Mcbryde

Alva L. McBryde, 84, a long-time resident of Casa Grande, passed away peacefully on September 1, with her family by her side.
She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 15, 1926 to George and Claudia Pittman. The family owned a neighborhood grocery store, where Alva, a very precocious child, delighted in running the cash register and pumping gas for customers. During World War II she was a civilian employee with the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas. After moving to Tucson, she attended the University of Arizona. In 1946 she met and married E.D. "Bud" McBryde and they came to Casa Grande in 1949 to open his law practice. She worked as a legal secretary and later as a court administrator for Pinal County Superior Court. Alva was active in Arizona Women's Bowling Association, serving in various positions at the local and state levels. She was a longtime member of the Casa Grande chapters of BPW (Business and Professional Women) and Zonta International.
Alva is survived by her children, Gail (Richard) Oxford of Phoenix and Stephen of Mesa. She had a special love for her grandson, David (Charity) Oxford of Phoenix, who alsosurvives her. During her last years she enjoyed the company of two wonderful friends: Jan Williams and Debbie Rascon, both of Casa Grande.
The Family would like to thank the truly amazing staff of the ICU department at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center, most notably the nurse Barb, for making Alva's last days so comfortable and peaceful.
A private memorial service and burial will be held.
