CASA GRANDE - Alvyn M. "Al" Marcey, 83, died on March 19, 2016, at Desert Cove Nursing Center in Chandler.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1932, in Manawa, Wis., and was a son of Merlin C. and Lucille M. (Ernst) Marcey. His family moved to Casa Grande in 1948, and he was a 1951 graduate of Casa Grande Union High School. He then attended farrier school at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
He was a life member of West Pinal County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and among the first of its members to build corrals and keep horses at the Casa Grande rodeo grounds. He was a mentor to the youth members of the CG Riders group, taking them on trail rides and sharing his knowledge of horses, their care and training. He was a former member of the American Quarter Horse Association and recorded "A Lazy Anchor" as the brand for his horses. He also was a master finish carpenter, known for his fine cabinet work and skilled precision in everything he made or built.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye J. Marcey.
The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Skyway Chapel in Mountain View Cemetery.
