Arnold Leonard Cooper

SACATON — Arnold Leonard Cooper, 85, died on May 23, 2013, at Caring House.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Mission in Sacaton, with rosary recited at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Mission in Upper Santan by Monsignor Ed Meulemans. Burial will be in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Cooper was born on Oct. 28, 1927, on the Salt River Indian Community and was a son of Harry and Molly Cooper. He served in the Army Airborne as a paratrooper in postwar Japan and later was a farmworker, tractor operator and irrigation foreman for 30 years at Gila River Farms before retirement. He enjoyed family gatherings, chicken scratch music and old friends.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lurline; three daughters, Kathleen Jose of Sacaton, Doreen Cooper-Williams of Stotonic and Elaine Cooper of Blackwater; two sons, Gary and Tony Cooper of Sacaton; a sister, Sister Kateri Cooper of Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Adrian Cooper; two sisters, Margaret Tashquinth and Gloria Ann Thomas; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Cooper.
