Barbara Jean Walker, age 82, passed away Dec. 14, 2024. She was born on Apr. 12, 1942 in Sterling, CO as the only daughter of Orville A. Grove and Darlene (Bailey) Grove. Lloyd Arnold Grove was her older and only half brother. After graduating from high school, Barbara met and married Harry Elmer Walker with whom was born their only child, Lona Jean. She was a special gift by arriving on Barbara’s 22nd birthday. Later Lona’s marriage to David Cowan rewarded Barbara with three grandsons: Jeremiah, Joshua, and Issac.
Barbara was a gifted crocheter and creator of various crafts. Her giving nature delighted in giving away her creations as well as selling them. This nature was also expressed in extending a needed hospitality to Diana Reid, who in turn, for many years became her dear friend and caretaker. Because she had acquired experience in different medical situations, she was a go-to person for some of the contestants at the NSPRA rodeos with their cuts and bruises. After her marriage to Lenard Paul Walker, she ran a booth and sold the NSPRA merchandise for over 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Darlene Grove; brother, Lloyd Grove; and husband, Lenard Walker. She is survived by her daughter, Lona Cowan; son-in-law, David Cowan; grandsons: Jeremiah, Joshua, and Issac Cowan; 2 brother-in-laws: Kenneth and Harry Walker; 2 sister-in-laws: Julia and Diana Walker; 4 nephews: Russ Walker, Zachary Walker, Zane Walker, Zehren Walker; and 2 nieces: Vicki Walker and Debra (Walker) Olson; and dear friend Diana Reid.
Barbara’s final resting place will be in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.
