Bernice A. Sicard, 78, of Casa Grande died on March 25, 2011, at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sicard, called Bernie by her friends, was born in Pawtucket, R.I., in 1933 to Donna Alix-Thibeault and Adelard A. Alix. Her younger brother, Richard, was born three years later. She attended elementary through high school in Rhode Island before entering the workforce. At the age of 19 she met her future husband, Hank Sicard, when they both worked on an assembly line at an area factory. They were married on March 29, 1952, by a justice of the peace before he was deployed in the Army during the Korean War.
Mrs. Sicard ran a business as a professional dog groomer for 20 years. She was very active with American Legion Post 14 in Cumberland, R.I., and was junior vice of the Women’s Auxiliary. When not hosting parties at home, she was often down at “the post” with her husband, usually gussied up and dancing the night away with friends.
She loved people, regularly starting conversations with complete strangers, and loved to be on the move. She was always listening to music and taught line dancing for a few years before she and her husband moved to Florida in 1988. She and her husband returned in 1995 to Rhode Island and then followed their daughter and her family to Arizona in 2003. They took up residence in Casa Grande, where she developed a passion for horses, helping her daughter care for her three equines housed on the Sicards’ property for the last several years.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Henry J.; her brother, Richard Alix; her only daughter, Dawn (Sicard) Gemme; and a granddaughter.
J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
