UPPER SAN TAN - Betty Anne Enos, 64, died on Sept. 23, 2019.
Ms. Enos was born on Aug. 1, 1955, in Sacaton to Benedict B. Soos and Ella M. Enos. She began a career in emergency services in 1977 when she became a certified dispatcher and corrections officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs police in Gila River and Ak-Chin. She furthered her career by volunteering for the Gia River Indian Community as a firefighter and worked her way up to become the first volunteer woman fire lieutenant.
She later was a firefighter and EMT for Gila River and also was an EMT for 10 years on the Tohono O'odham Nation with the Indian Health Service. In 2004 she went to work for Gila River Gaming Enterprises with its first fully staffed emergency department for a casino in Arizona. She ended her career as an EMT sergeant after serving a total of 38 years.
Survivors include a son, Jayson A.M. Enos-Pratt; two daughters, Mandy Morningstar Enos and Elizabeth Lewis; a brother, Donald Enos; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond R. Soos, Rodrick G. and Carlton H. Terry; and three sisters, Shirley A. and Janice R. Terry and Myrtle Enos.
Wake beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the family home, 1050 N. Levee Road. Funeral Mass celebrated at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at St. Anne Catholic Mission. Burial in St. Anne Cemetery.
