William A. “Bill” Schunk, 94, of Casa Grande died on Jan. 3, 2011, at Deborah’s House care home.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens House.
Mr. Schunk was born on March 16, 1916, in Colome, S.D., and was a son of William B. Schunk and Ethel Pollock. He was a supervisor in Indian public health services before retirement. He enjoyed playing bingo and telling Sioux stories. He loved driving, and trains fascinated him, either watching or riding them. He also loved mowing lawns with his riding mower.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen; a daughter, Darlene Engellenner of Roseville, Calif.; a son, Lee G. Schunk of Newnan, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Smith of Aberdeen, S.D.; five stepsons, Robert Smith of Greeley, Colo., David Smith of Macks Creek, Mo., Greg Smith of Kent, Wash., Norman Smith of Conde, S.D., and Kim Smith of Pierre, S.D.; a sister, Vylla Picotte of Aberdeen, S.D.; 23 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
