Bill Scott, 85, of Casa Grande died on September 14, 2011 after an
extended illness.
Bill was born on December 6, 1925 in Pomona, CA. Raised in Willcox, AZ, he learned to ride, hunt, rope, and farm. Bill served in the Naval Air Corps toward the end of World War II. He returned to Willcox where he met and married JoAnn Plough in 1947. After graduating from Arizona State College (ASU) Bill and four friends started Best Fertilizers of Arizona which they owned and operated until 1975. Bill then went
on to devote his life to cotton farming. His passion, other than raising cotton, was serving on numerous local, state, national, and international agricultural boards. Bill worked tirelessly for improving the plight of agriculture in Arizona and beyond. In his later years he and JoAnn fulfilled their dream of designing and building a family home in Tubac, AZ.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years JoAnn; two sons, Colin M. (Verlinda) of Gilbert, AZ and Craig (Linda) of Casa Grande, AZ; two brothers, Alan Scott of Globe, AZ and Jim Scott of Desert Hills, AZ; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held for family members. A celebration of life will be on Friday, Sept. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at 1170 E. Manor Dr. in Casa Grande for all friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contributions be made to Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 10480, Casa Grande, AZ 85130.
