Billie Rae Odom

August 14, 1936 — January 31, 2021

Billie Rae Odom, 84, of Casa Grande, Arizona, passed away on January 31, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her son, Kent Odom, and her brother Richard Compton. She is survived by her children Jeri Lynn (Russ) Taylor of Mesquite, NV, Curt (Jackie) Odom of Casa Grande, Beth (Van) Taylor of Taylor, UT, and her brother, Max Compton of Casa Grande. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren
Billie was born to Grace and Max Compton on August 14, 1936 in Jacumba, CA. Her family relocated to Casa Grande when she was very young. She graduated from Casa Grande Union High School as the salutatorian of her senior class. She was also active in many clubs including the National Honor Society. A few days after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Odom, on May 30, 1954. They remained constant companions until Jerry’s death a year ago on January 25, 2020.
After working alongside her husband at Pinal Printing for a period of time, Billie began working for the State of Arizona. She retired from the State after many years of faithful service.
Billie loved her family. Large extended family gatherings were her specialty. She hosted many wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home where you could hear the laughter and chatter of aunts, uncles, cousins and anyone else who happened to show up. Her children knew every Saturday meant grilled hamburger night that included an open invitation for friends to join in the fun.
When she woke up on Sunday morning the day she passed, the first thing she said was, “Today is the Lord’s day”. Her faith and love for the Lord was evident in everything she did. She was a member of the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. She was always ready to serve whenever a need arose, and she did it humbly and gladly.
Billie loved to give hugs. Whether she had just met you, or had known you forever, you got a huge hug every time. And if you were really lucky, you got a piece of chocolate. Billie dished out chocolate candies to McDonald’s drive thru attendants, and doctors caring for her husband. Had she met the Queen of England, you can bet she would’ve shared a chocolate and a hug.
In addition to being a very active member of her church, Billie also was a volunteer for the Cub Scouts, and an avid Little League supporter, many of those years cheering on her own sons.
There is no doubt that Billie is now in Heaven reunited with her soulmate Jerry, and her Savior Jesus, and she is cheering her loved ones on from her home in Glory.
