Bob Havener

Robert Edward “Bob” Havener, 82, died on May 16, 2010, at Hospice Family Care in Casa Grande.
Mr. Havener and his wife had been winter visitors to Casa Grande for 15 years prior to moving to town in 2005. He was born on Dec. 4, 1927, to Hubert and Esther Havener in Bussey, Iowa. He grew up on his parents’ farms in the Bussey and Harvey, Iowa, area. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1945 and began college at Iowa State University. He finished at Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University), where he met his wife, Patricia Cheney. They were married on March 29, 1950. He taught high school for two years in Iliff, Colo., and then served two years in the Korean War. They resided in the Vail Valley in Colorado from 1954 to 2005. He was a hard worker who put his heart into everything he did. In that time he worked as a ranch hand, partner in a dairy business, farmer, trailer park owner and manager, carpenter and truck driver.
The Haveners played a role in the start of, and were very active in, Lake Creek Baptist Church in Edwards, Colo., which is now Trinity Baptist Church. He became a member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Casa Grande in 1997 and spent the last three years serving as a deacon. He was also very active in the transportation ministry and loved serving those in need. He was a very generous man, loved the Lord with all his heart and was devoted to his family.
Mr. Havener requested that his body be donated to Life Legacy for medical research. Cremation followed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years on March 20, 2008. He is survived by two sons, Edwin Havener of Gypsum, Colo., and Lawrence Havener of Salida, Colo.; two daughters, Valena Day of Rupert, Idaho, and LauraLynn Brooke of Yukon, Okla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Survivors may also include daughter Vonnette Smith and an unknown number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be sent to the “Trinity for Tomorrow” building fund at Trinity Southern Baptist Church, 1100 E. Trinity Place, Casa Grande, AZ 85122.
