CASA BLANCA - Brainard "Nod" Johns, 55, died on Sept. 30, 2015, at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa.
The wake and visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the District 5 Service Center. The graveside service will be at 6 a.m. Friday in Sweetwater Cemetery, with Councilman Robert Stone officiating.
Mr. Johns was born on Feb. 11, 1960, in Phoenix. He attended school in Sacaton and at Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. Before retirement, he was a fiber-optic installer for Gila River Telecommunications and an air-conditioning technician for the Gila River Indian Community’s facilities maintenance department. His hobbies included listening to music, watching football and boxing, and talking with friends. His joy was taking care of his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Michelle Macazan-Johns; five daughters, Candice and Heather Johns of Sacaton, Ashley Macazan of Blackwater, Christina Kisto of Buckeye and Vanessa Begaye of Utah; five sons, Mark and Terrance Johns of Blackwater, Shawn Johns of Santan, Derek and Brainard O. Johns Jr. of Sacaton; three sisters, Frauline, Pamela and Diana Johns, all of Sacaton Flats; two brothers, Mervyn and Myron Johns of Sacaton Flats; and 22 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Permelia Manuel-Kisto and Dale N. Johns, and a sister, Janet Allison.
