SACATON — Bruce Wade Schurz, 56, of Sacaton died on March 8, 2012, at home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the family home. The graveside service will be at 6:30 a.m. Friday in West Cemetery, with the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating.
Mr. Schurz was born on June 13, 1955, in Sacaton. He was a welder and worked in the mining industry. He enjoyed going on long drives through back roads, traveling, listening to music and being with family and friends. He would go out of his way to help people and enjoyed dancing to cumbias and being with his grandchildren. He would give them cookies.
He was very traditional in Sioux ways and other Native American culture. He loved his guns and joking around and made people laugh and was a good story teller.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Schurz-Stone of Stotonic, Sofia Carmelo of Santan and Anita Carmelo of Tucson; three sons, Lenny Schurz of Globe, Blue Sky Schurz of San Carlos and Wade Schurz of Santan; three sisters, Emaline Quimayousie, Gloria Schurz and Jeanell Justin, all of Sacaton; two brothers, Robert Schurz of Santan and Dennis Jose of Sells; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hershel Jackson; a sister, Beverly Schurz; and his parents, Byron and Blanche Schurz.
