Camillus C. Lopez passed on to the spirit world on March 10, 2024.
He attended Santa Rosa Boarding and Day School and Sherman Indian High School. Raised with
O’odham values he was a fluent O’odham language speaker with valuable cultural knowledge. He
dedicated his life serving his community, The Catholic Church and the Tohono O’odham Nation. In the
1980’s he made his Cursillo in the Diocese of Tucson. His occupations are vast which included politics,
teaching, mentorship and traditional leadership to list a few. He was employed with the Tohono
O’odham Community College as a Language & Culture Instructor, teaching O’odham language and
history.
Camillus is survived by his wife of 26 years Mary Jesusita Lopez. Together they raised four grandchildren
Chanelle, Chantel, Ryan and Mya.
He is preceded by his parents DEACON Philip and Dorothy Lopez, brothers Christopher, Waylon, Luterio
Lopez and sister Kathleen Domingo. His surviving siblings are Cynthia Manuel, Isidro and Lucius Lopez.
Wake will be on Sunday, March 17, 2024 starting at 5:00 PM with an all night vigil of singing and prayers.
Location will be Anegam Community, St. Clare Church. Mass will be at 6:00 AM with burial and final
viewing to follow at Santa Rosa South Cemetery. Fourth day will be on March 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM –
2:00 PM.
