MARICOPA - Carlos Torres, 79, of Maricopa died on Oct. 1, 2015, at home with his family at his side.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Casa Grande, with rosary recited at 10. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 by the Rev. Alan Valencia. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Torres was born on Feb. 11, 1936, in Colonia Morelos, Mexico. He moved to the United States and, before retirement, worked for many years building freeways as a laborer and operating engineer. He lived in Arizona for most of his adult life but also in California at times. He settled in Glendale, Arizona, where he raised his family, and eventually moved to Maricopa.
His land and his family were the love of his life and he spent long days tending to his many fruit trees and garden. While "chasing" gophers, he often joked he was digging one hole to fill another. His joy was to have his grandchildren visit and enjoy nature as much as he did.
Survivors include two daughters, Lupita Torres of Arizona and Elizabeth Cuneo of Connecticut, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla, and a son, Daniel Torres.
