SACATON — Carol G. Nelson, 47, of Sacaton died Dec. 1, 2011, in Sacaton.
The wake will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the District 1 Service Center. The funeral service will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Blackwater Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Randy Ruiz and the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating. Burial will be in Squaw Bush Cemetery.
Ms. Nelson was born Sept. 6, 1964, in Sacaton. She was a homemaker who was always smiling, happy and friendly. Everyone loved her cheerful, loving ways. She loved her children, loved to cook, loved to play basketball, softball and volleyball. She loved music, loved to dance, loved the Phoenix Suns, especially Steve Nash, and was a "huge" Arizona Cardinals fan. She volunteered at the dialysis support group in Sacaton and worked in the enrollment department for Gila River Indian Community.
She is survived by her parents, Alma Nelson of Sacaton Flats and Tsosie Nelson of Blackwater; two sons, Nicholas Vavages of Sacaton and Kevin Vavages of Blackwater; two daughters, Stepheni Vavages and Zonnie Vavages, both of Sacaton; four brothers, Brent Nelson Sr. of Sacaton, Keith Nelson of Blackwater, Ryan Newman Sr. of Blackwater and Herman Nelson of Blackwater; one sister, Linda Morgan of Casa Grande; her companion, Joseph Siaza of Sacaton; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Waylon Nelson.
