CASA GRANDE - Dr. Charles A. Rehwaldt, 90, died quietly on Dec. 6, 2015, in Casa Grande due to complications from a head injury.
Dr. Rehwaldt was born on Sept. 7, 1925. He was raised and spent most of his adult life in Minnesota, with the major portion of his career as a professor of genetics at St. Cloud State University, where he was department chair for over a decade. After retirement, he and his wife, Gloria, were winter residents in Casa Grande for many years and later in Crescent City, California, in order to be close to grandchildren.
She died in 2011 after a 57-year marriage. Later he became the committed companion to Donna Clements, who has been a Casa Grande resident for 40 years.
He is survived by Donna; a son, Warren; a brother, Harold Rehwaldt; and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar; three sisters, Arlene, Dorothy and Irma; a daughter, Cristine; and a son, Alan.
The memorial service will be conducted in Minnesota in 2016. There will be private local services for members of his church, family and neighbors.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Cloud State University Foundation (Charles Rehwaldt Endowment for the Biological Sciences) or to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.
