Charles "Ed" Bender, 75, passed away February 24, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, at the Olive Branch Assisted Living Home in Casa Grande. Ed was born a 6th-generation Tucsonan and lived most of his life in Arizona. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Ottawa University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Arizona. He spent many years as an educator, serving the Arizona communities of Sells, Eloy, Sahuarita, Ganado, and Tucson. In semi-retirement he drove a U.S. Mail truck. Ed was an avid woodworker and also
enjoyed golf, horseback riding, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and reading. He was a very caring and generous man who would help those in need any way he could.
Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Casa Grande; two daughters, Leslie Workman of Casa Grande and Janet Mathews of Tucson; son, Scott of Casa Grande; 10 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Gayel and Dorothy, sister Shirley, daughter Debbie, and son Bradley.
Services will be held March 1, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at The Gardens Chapel, 525 N. Peart Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Compassus, 1675
