With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Charles Eugene Smith, who departed this life on October 28, 2024, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Born in Flint, Michigan, on January 23, 1954, Charles lived a life marked by joy, gratitude, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
A dedicated General Manager and water master, Charlie was known for his expertise in Western spurs and firearms. His professional life was characterized by a commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference in his community. He approached each day with a grateful heart, often responding to inquiries about his well-being with his signature phrase, "I am still on the green side of the grass."
Charlie was also the heart of his family, a talented chef who took pride in preparing holiday meals and delectable treats. His fudge, fruit cakes, and brittle were not just desserts; they were cherished traditions that brought warmth and joy to his loved ones. As a husband, father, papa, brother, and uncle, he exemplified love and devotion, always prioritizing family time and creating lasting memories.
In addition to his culinary talents, Charlie found great joy in embodying the spirit of 'Santa' at local schools, bringing smiles to countless children, especially those at his daughter’s workplace. His generous spirit and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A man of deep faith, Charlie found comfort in the words of Psalm 73:24-26: "Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever."
Charlie is survived by his devoted spouse, Patricia J. Smith; his children, Charles L. Smith, Jason Hale, and Denia Lopez; his brother, Butch Smith; his sister, Mary Sorensen; along with ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and a granddaughter.
Charles Eugene Smith’s legacy of love, laughter, and commitment to family will be remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
