Charles Jay “Charlie” Cooper, 76, of Arizona City, a longtime rancher, died on Dec. 30, 2010, in Casa Grande.
A private service is planned.
Mr. Cooper was born on July 1, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kan., and was a member of the Osage Indian tribe of Oklahoma. His parents were Charles E. Fuller and Martha M. Stroud, and his stepfather was Edward “Dutch” Cooper. He was a paratrooper in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and attended Oklahoma State University and Coffeeville (Kan.) Community College. He was raised on and lived most of his life on the Cooper Ranch in Osage County, Okla. He loved the cowboy life and was especially fond of his horses.
He served on the Shidler (Okla.) school board for more than 20 years. He loved his dogs, Annie and Bud, and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa; three sons, Jay E. Cooper of Dallas, Dee E. Cooper of Ringwood, Okla., and Joe C. Cooper of Owasso, Okla.; a brother, Joe Cooper of Salida, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
