CASA BLANCA - Cornell Leon "Sa:lig Ba’ag" Lyons Jr., 15, died on Nov. 26, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the Thomas/Lyons home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be in Vah-Ki Cemetery.
Cornell was born on June 23, 2000, in Chandler. He was a student at Casa Grande Union High School and a member of Junior ROTC and Amerind Club. A member of St. Peter’s Church, he was an altar server for the last three years.
He enjoyed playing traditional drum, which he would perform at powwows. He also was a traditional dancer and enjoyed BMX bikes and free-art graffiti. He liked watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He was a joy to be with, always making jokes and making people laugh.
Survivors include his parents, Rainee D. Thomas and Cornell L. Lyons Sr. of Casa Blanca; a brother, Justin R. Chiago of Casa Blanca; five sisters, Melanie, Nichole and Rochelle Lyons, all of Sacaton, Morningdew Thomas and Tara Lyons of Casa Blanca; and grandparents, Tyrone Thomas of Komatke and Lorna Thomas of Casa Grande. He was preceded in death by a brother, Shawn Lyons; a sister, Cheyenne Lyons; and grandparents Claudia Ramirez and George Lyons Jr.
