Cristobal "Cris" Hernandez, 72, a retired Casa Grande Fire Department division chief and longtime civic leader, died on March 1, 2013, at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel, with visitation from 6 to 8. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeremiah Bradford officiating.
Mr. Hernandez was born on Nov. 16, 1940, in Las Cruces, N.M. He served on the Casa Grande Fire Department for 40 years and retired as a division chief. He also was a longtime general contractor, operating as C&B Builders, and a member of the Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame.
His civic affiliations included: O'Odham Tash parade chairman for 36 years, Casa Grande Rotary Club and past president, Casa Grande Bowling Association, soccer, basketball and bowling coach, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Casa Grande Valley board member, Relay for Life, March of Dimes board, Special Olympics board and Casa Grande Valley Historical Society board. He cooked for many community events.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sandra; eight sons and daughters, Cristina Hernandez, Erica Chavez, Stephen Hernandez, Yolanda Williams, Sylvia Armenta, Cristobal Hernandez Jr., Pablo and Roberto Hernandez; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
