COOLIDGE — Cruz Elena Hernandez, 82, of Coolidge died on Feb. 2, 2013.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 6. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Virgilio Tabo. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hernandez was born on Aug. 18, 1930, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. She was a farmworker and was devoted to her family, very protective of them and helping no matter what time her family called upon her. She was quite a joker and enjoyed making her family laugh.
She was a strong woman and never complained. She raised birds and had a talent for gardening. She was a great cook and enjoyed going to casinos.
Survivors include four daughters, Maria Urquijo, Maria "Angie" Gomez and Lupe Hernandez, all of Coolidge, and Rosa A. Hernandez of Casa Grande; two sons, Jesse Hernandez of San Tan Valley and Abel Hernandez of Coolidge; two sisters, Hermenia Castellano and Consuelo Murrietta of Nogales, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro; a daughter, Mercedes Urquijo; two sons, Hector and Alejandro Hernandez Jr.; three sisters, Dolores Duarte, Adelina Soliz and Guadalupe Flores; and three brothers, Manuel and Ramon Urquijo and Reynaldo Galindo.
