Daniel Gregory Hernandez Sr., 80, of Eloy died on Dec. 18, 2010 at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System hospice in Tucson.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. today at J. Warren Funeral Services, Valley Chapel. The funeral will follow at 11:30, with Pastor Sal Galaviz officiating. Burial will be in Eloy Memorial Park.
Mr. Hernandez was born on June 25, 1930, in Coleman, Okla., and was a son of Bertha Daugherty and Sylvester Hernandez Sr. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and achieved the rank of sergeant. He was a heavy-equipment operator for the city of Eloy and Pinal County before retirement and enjoyed his job. He loved his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed watching sports.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara J.; five daughters, Brenda Espinoza of Visalia, Calif., Lucy Hernandez of Coolidge, Glinda Hernandez Hutchinson of Casa Grande, Danette Hernandez Wright of Cottage City, Md., and Derilyn C. Paddock of Coolidge; a son, Daniel “Danny” Hernandez Jr. of Eloy; a sister, Sonja Hernandez Simms of Casa Grande; three brothers, Frank Hernandez of Lake Isabella, Calif., Bobby Hernandez of Eloy and Sylvester Hernandez Jr. of Coolidge; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Hernandez Gonzales, and a sister, Rosa L. Holland.
