Casa Grande, AZ - David arrived on Jan. 5, 1966 into a family who, with him, wasted no time living life to the fullest with love and respect for family, friends and the outdoors. David lived large with numerous hobbies, outings, shenanigans (yep, we’re hearing the stories!) and simply being home with Mom and Dude, and then Jake. He lived like every day could be his last, well after he got sick. He was not only at ease in nature, he was intrepid - whether watching sunsets from the house, helping friends set up their archery bows, hunting in Flagstaff with his buddies or down south with his Tios, fishing in Pinetop or on Roosevelt Lake, scuba diving in Thailand and the Philippines, flying his MANY remote controlled airplanes, hiking mountains like Mt. Lemmon or skiing double black diamond runs at Sunrise. Last summer he even went to Disneyland and built a lightsaber!
David had an innate way of bringing people together, whether it was on the USS Elliot during its many runs during the Gulf War, at the many complexes he worked at the Florence State Prison in Florence or even the Otter Slide while in High School. David had an uncanny way of making everyone feel loved and safe, and nothing sounded better than hearing him laugh.
Following a long and truly valiant battle with cancer, David transitioned into the next realm peacefully surrounded by those he loved. Heaven, Dad, Tata and other loved ones are undoubtedly rejoicing at his arrival to make up for lost time. But David will be missed by so many here. His survivors look forward to the day that David guides them from this lifetime into their next big adventure. They include his mother Mercy Ann Dickey; daughter Adrienne Mercedes Dickey, sisters Mary Frances Dickey Groger (Rick), Kathleen Patricia Briggs (John) and their daughter Lily, brother Daniel C. Dickey (Jill) and their children Tristan, Andrew, Madi and Layni; along with countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends across the country.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers and other gifts, please spend time outdoors with those you love, or pick up or teach someone a new hobby. David would have lots of suggestions for you! For those who want to make a donation in his name, please support pancreatic cancer research through PANCAN.ORG. Look out for those you love, and live and love fully until your very last day; because that’s exactly what David did.
