David Wayne Dobbins, age 73, of Coolidge, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Born on July 27, 1951, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Elliot “Happy” and Vivian Dobbins, David graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1969, where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, influencing his career in coaching. He earned his teaching degree from Auburn University in 1973 and later obtained a master’s degree in education and an administrator’s certificate.

David dedicated 32 years of his career to Coolidge High School, teaching English, Government, and American History. He was deeply committed to his students and players, and his love for coaching was evident as he led teams in baseball, basketball, football, and girls’ softball. He eventually became the Athletic Director for Coolidge Unified School District, retiring in 2010.

On November 22, 1975, David married Vicki (Tuck) Dobbins in Yuma, Arizona. They met while working together at Antelope Union High School. Together, they had two children, Matthew David, born in 1980, and Melissa Sue, born in 1982. He welcomed his only grandchild, Mikaila Jean, in 2021.

David is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Dobbins; his son, Matthew Dobbins; his daughter, Melissa (Conrad) Puentes; his granddaughter, Mikaila; his sister, Charlotte Dunlap; his brothers, Tim Dobbins and Philip “Thumper” Dobbins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Jerry.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
