David George Shipp

David George Shipp; 53; of Tucson, Arizona, formerly, Michigan; passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 5, 2014. David was born January 21, 1961 in Pontiac, Michigan. He was a deeply cherished son, survived by his mother, Alma Shipp of Casa Grande and preceded in death by his father, George Shipp. Also proceeded in death by sister Linda Witt. David was brother to Richard Shipp, James Shipp, and Lori Sweeney. He was Uncle to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. David never let cerebral palsy define who he was. He lived an overcoming life which inspired many along the way. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in 1985 and went on to earn another Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University. Despite the limitations of quadriplegia, David organized and swam in many annual fund raisers for M.D.A. for which he was extremely passionate about. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to David’s current caregiver and roommate Jessie Acuna, as well as David’s many other caretakers, friends and companions. Thank you for being such an intimate part of David’s life and our family. I would like to thank my brother Jim for being with David these last months; it brings me great comfort that you were with him. Thank you to David’s entire teams at University of Tucson Medical Center and Casa de la Luz Hospice Unit, the compassion, dignity and care extended was a kiss from heaven. David will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Casa Grande, Arizona. To honor his request there will not be a formal memorial service though he would like people to know that, "I lived life to the fullest." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. …..
