ELOY - Delvin Miles Davis, 60, of Eloy died on Sept. 29, 2017.
Mr. Davis was born on June 6, 1957, in Sacaton to Elsie and Melvin Davis Sr. He was devoted to his family and known for his loving spirit and kind heart. He had many lifelong friendships. A substance abuse counselor with a passion for life, he helped to change lives and had a special ability to talk to people.
He was a specialist 4 in the Army's 187th Infantry at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He had a deep love for his tribe and served on the board of Gila River Health Care from 1995 to 1998. He also was a traditional spiritual counselor for both the Gila River Indian Community and Tohono O'odham Nation as well as other areas. He had strong faith, compassion and genuine love for others and touched the lives of many. He loved his dog of three years, Paris.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Valentine-Davis; a daughter and seven stepchildren, Michaelene Davis, Veronica Johns, Marissa Peinado, Patricia Smith, Angela De Leon, Veronica Garcia, Eric Johns and Ronald Smith; five siblings, Catalina Ahmsaty, Melvadine Miguel, Maricia Mendoza, Lavena Blaine and Calvin Davis; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral Mass celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church, with visitation until 7. Rosary and wake from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. at the home of the late Melvin Davis Sr. in Sacaton. Sunrise service at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in Pisinemo Village Cemetery, Tohono O'odham Nation.
