Dennis Steven Carner, 63, of Casa Grande died May 16, 2007 after a long and valiant struggle against a debilitating disease.
An afternoon of remembering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the family home, 450 W. Sunwest Drive, Space 63.
Mr. Carner was born Feb. 20, 1944 in Alamogordo, N.M., where his parents, Dallas and Gladys Carner, lived in the Sacramento Mountains. The family moved to California and he went to school there. He received a degree in architecture from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and practiced in Fresno for more than 20 years. He married Pamela E. Smith of Fresno in 1986. He switched to elementary education in 1988 and moved to Casa Grande in 1993. He taught until 2005, when health deterioration caused him to retire. He was known for his wry humor and concern for others, the world and its future.
Survivors include his wife, Pam; a daughter, Dawn Minenna of Clovis, Calif.; two sons, Steven Carner of Phoenix and Timothy Carner of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth.
