CASA GRANDE - Donald "Don" Martin, 93, died on Dec. 13, 2019.
Mr. Martin was born on May 29, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was in a drum and bugle corps as a child. He was in the Army's 75th Infantry during World War II and fought in Germany on the Rhine River. After the war, he delivered rope for the executions following the Nuremberg trials. He later moved to Mayer, Arizona. In 1954 he met his future wife, Betty.
He always had an interest in cars. He and a brother opened Martin Brothers Garage in Mayer in 1952, then moved it to Phoenix. They had M&M Garage and Body Shop and M&M Auto Storage for 40 years. He loved to travel with his wife and daughter, and he also loved gardening and complaining about gophers. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting and racing. He was devoted to his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Daylene Brackbill of Casa Grande; a brother, Mel Martin of Phoenix; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife.
Graveside service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at (East) Resthaven Park Cemetery, 4310 E. Southern Ave. in Phoenix. Celebration of life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Martin Auto Museum, 17641 N. Black Canyon Highway in Phoenix.
