Donald Joseph "Don" Abler

CASA GRANDE - Donald Joseph "Don" Abler Jr., 83, retired from the Air Force and Michigan State Police and a Catholic deacon, died on May 27, 2016, at Cactus Peaks Assisted Living.

Mr. Abler was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Detroit to Sylvia and Donald Abler Sr. He was an ordained deacon and member of St. Anthony’s Church. A happy-go-lucky guy who loved people, he never turned down a good glass of scotch or an ice cream sundae.

Survivors include four daughters and sons, Mickey Abler of Casa Grande, Donald Abler III of Abingdon, Maryland, Denise Straksys of Detroit and David Abler of Royal Oak, Michigan; a sister, Pat Gilin of Lakeland, Florida; a brother, Ken Abler of Cape Coral, Florida; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to city of Casa Grande Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30.
