Donald Wallace "Wally" Weil

CASA GRANDE - Donald Wallace "Wally" Weil, 96, died peacefully on Aug. 29, 2019, at Caliche Senior Living.

Mr. Weil was born on July 20, 1923, in Cleveland to Laurence and Carol (Wallace) Weil. He later had a stepfather, Mills Clark. He attended Oberlin College until volunteering for the Army the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served honorably in the 35th Infantry from 1942 until 1945 during World War II. He landed on a beach in Normandy and served in Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for wounds received and acts of bravery in battle. He was very proud of his service and his country.

He returned home to finish his Bachelor of Arts degree at Oberlin, where he met his future wife, Jane (Bittel). They were married on Dec. 29, 1947. He attended Willamette University in Oregon and received a law degree in 1950. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies. He also was a member of Sons of the American Revolution in Ohio and Wisconsin chapters and served on many national and international boards over the years. The couple returned to the Midwest to raise their family and he was president of James Foundry Corp. in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, from 1960 until 1970. He joined the business administration faculty as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and was the department chairman from 1974 until 1977. He received the Excellence in Teaching honor twice there.

He returned to the corporate world as president of Diversified Industries Inc. in St. Louis, then was director of UHI Corp. in Los Angeles. In 1985 he returned to the university in Eau Claire and remained as a professor until retiring in 2002. He loved to travel, visit family and friends and dine out for any meal. He had a passion for gathering family together for visits and taking many, many pictures! He never stopped teaching and sharing his experiences, becoming a mentor and lifelong friend to many former students. He was a prolific letter writer, history buff and had a great appreciation for music. He loved his pets and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Constance Boase; a son, Charles Weil; a grandson, Charles Weil; and a granddaughter, Cora Weil. Survivors include a son, John Weil; two daughters, Margaret Cummings and Carol Johnsen; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
