SACATON - Doreen V. Allen, 66, of Sacaton, who was a longtime administrative assistant for the Gila River Indian Community, died on June 30, 2015, at Caring House.
Ms. Allen will lie in state from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Gila River Governance Center. A wake will follow from 6 to 9 p.m. at the District 2 Multipurpose Center. The funeral will be at 5 a.m. Friday at Upper Santan Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Aaron Johns officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery.
She was born on May 9, 1949, in Sacaton. She served as Community Council secretary, chief election judge, on the Voter Registration Board and worked to introduce Kids Voting. She also served on the Blackwater Community School board, with the Dialysis Support Group and on various other committees and boards for her district. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Maraya L. Acu�a of Upper Santan and Audra L. Antone of Hashen Kehk; four sisters, Evelyn Gopher of Casa Blanca, Aileen Vavages of Bapchule, Michelle Osife of Hashen Kehk and Michaela Cooper of Sacaton; two brothers, Alvin Cooper of Upper Santan and Derwin Cooper of Goodyear Village; and two grandchildren.
