SACATON - Doris Carmelita Felix, 79, of Sacaton died on Oct. 19, 2019.
Mrs. Felix was born on April 10, 1940, in Sacaton to Justin and Julia Oxpe Kisto. She was full of radiant love and laughter and guided her eight children through life's trials and tribulations. Working three jobs at a time, as a housekeeper, secretary and hospital telephone operator, she was a strong Akimel O'odham woman and never allowed society to dictate or oppress her love of her native tongue.
Fluently speaking O'odham Noek as her first language, she also expressed herself through traditional song and dance, teaching her skills and talents to her daughters and grandchildren so they could carry on through time. Catholic her entire life, she taught her family to "walk a narrow path." She surrounded herself with brothers and sisters of De Colores Cursillo. She strummed her guitar at Sunday Mass and confessed her worries to her dear friend, Father Richard.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Johnny; seven adult children, Judy, Dianna, Terrance, Corina, Ramona, Shirley and Julie; two sisters, Dorinne and Melinda; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger, and three brothers, Johnny, Urban and Titus.
Wake beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at the family home, 213 E. Calendar Circle.
J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel in charge of arrangements.
