Dorothea Harriet Jim, aged 79, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Chandler, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all whose lives she touched. Born on February 22, 1944, in Ganado, Arizona to loving parents Roger Quochytewa and Cecilia Jenkins, Dorothea embodied the spirit of compassion and warmth throughout her remarkable journey.
A true matriarch, Dorothea's heart overflowed with love for her family. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and embraced her role as a devoted mother and grandmother wholeheartedly. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Dorothea took great pride in her "rich" collection of countless grandchildren, each one an invaluable treasure contributing to the vast tapestry of her life.
Known for her selflessness and generosity, Dorothea extended open arms to all who sought solace within the walls of her home. Despite residing within the Pima community, she embraced them as if they were her own Hopi family. As an emblematic figure within the Gila River Indian Community for many years, Dorothea remained steadfastly committed to preserving her cherished Hopi traditions.
Left to honor her memory are her beloved children: Antonio Hugo Sr., Glenna Hugo, Elizabeth Blackwater, Doyle Hugo, and Renell Hugo. Additionally, she leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love through her 22 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Although preceded in death by her parents as well as all of her brothers and sisters; their spirit will forever remain alive within the hearts of those who knew and loved Dorothea dearly.
May we find solace in the memories we shared with Dorothea, and may her gentle spirit continue to guide us as we navigate the journey of life.
