Dorothy Contreras

FLORENCE - Dorothy Contreras, 95, a Florence native, died on July 18, 2018, in Florence.

Mrs. Contreras was born on June 19, 1923, to George Myers and Mabel Anna Westfall. She married Alex F. Contreras on June 29, 1945, in Florence.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and singing. She liked to read western books, watch western movies and listen to western music. She was a nurse and loved working with the elderly. Very creative, she played multiple instruments: piano, banjo guitar and violin.

Survivors include two daughters and a son, Kathleen M. Juarez of Florence, Anna L. Riddering of Barnesville, Minnesota, and Joe Contreras of Houston; two siblings, Carmel Barela of Apache Junction and Leonard Espinoza of Florence; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Sandra M. Whitworth; a sister, Opal Soto; and a granddaughter, Sherry A. Riddering.

Visitation beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at Assumption Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 9. Funeral Mass celebrated at 9:30. Burial in Florence Cemetery.
