ARIZONA CITY - Dorothy Havins, 94, died on Dec. 11, 2013, in Arizona City.
Mrs. Havins was born on Sept. 23, 1919, in Eagle Rock, Calif. She came to Arizona at a young age, living first in the Bisbee area and moving with her family to Ajo when she was about 8. She remained in Ajo until moving to Arizona City with her daughter Karin.
She married her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, "Hank" Havins. They had four children and remained together until his death on Dec. 12, 1986. She was an avid reader, loved the Diamondbacks, never missing a game on TV and keeping books of statistics on the games. She loved learning, continuing her education after her children were grown at Pima Community College in Ajo. She was a loving person, taking in anyone who needed help and thinking of the neighbor kids as part of the family always.
Survivors include four sons and daughters, George of Ajo, Karin "Sally" Williams of Arizona City, Kristie Enders of Gilbert and Jim of Glendale; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren, with another expected.
The service is planned later in Ajo, with interment beside her husband.
