SANTA ROSA VILLAGE — Dorothy Rae Moreno, 54, of Santa Rosa died on March 18, 2012, at University Medical Center in Tucson.
The wake will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the Moreno home in north Santa Rosa. The graveside service will be at 7 a.m. Saturday in Southside Cemetery, with Pastor Pete Reed officiating.
Mrs. Moreno was born on July 26, 1957, in Winslow. She was a homemaker who met her husband, Hubert Moreno Sr., in school in Riverside, Calif. They married in Santa Rosa on Sept. 7, 1978. She was a strong advocate for disabled children and worked with the Pilot Parents of Southern Arizona program and the state Division of Developmental Disabilities.
She had a strong drive to help her community, the Tohono O'odham Nation. She worked at a reservation boys home, and the residents became her friends who sought out her help later with counseling. She was always smiling and devoted to her family and coworkers.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Guthrie "Gunts" Moreno of Tucson, Hubert "Bonk" Moreno Jr. and Joshua "Mosh" Moreno of Santa Rosa; two daughters, Crystal Moreno of Ajo and Jesyka Moreno of Tucson; her father, George Talahongva of Santa Rosa; a brother, Loran "Bay" Nahsonhoya of Casa Grande; a sister, Cynthia "Cindy" Nahsonhoya of Tucson; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Berniece Nahsonhoya, and two sisters, Millicent Ramirez and Sheila A. Nahsonhoya.
