Earl Wesley Courtney Jr. was born on March 22, 1945 in Brisbane, Australia to Earl and Gloria Courtney and passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2010.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jeanne Courtney; son, Earl W. Courtney III and wife, Esther; daughter, Chantel Garcia and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Angela Courtney, Steven Courtney, Nicole Courtney, Corinne Garcia, Brandon Garcia; great-grandchildren, Mason Padovese and Landon Courtney, all of Casa Grande, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gloria Courtney.
Earl graduated from high school in Santa Clara, CA and attended San Jose City College in San Jose, CA.
He was a loving husband, the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather known as "Popo" to his family. Earl enjoyed many vacations to his vacation home in Maui, Hawaii and his birthplace, Brisbane, Australia. He enjoyed making his famous hamburgers for his family at barbecues on the weekend, and pancakes for them at breakfast. He had a life-long love for animals, especially his dog, Maggie, who will miss her belly rubs. He enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife, Jeanne. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their various activities, spending time with them and being the best "Popo" any family could ask for. He loved attending baseball games with his family and life-long childhood friend, Jack Cambra. His generosity to help others and his caring ways will be missed by all those that knew him.
Earl was the founder and CEO of National Vitamin Company which he started in 1974 in San Jose, CA an later moved to Hollister, CA and then to Porterville, CA and finally to Casa Grande, Arizona in 2006. He leaves behind his business partner and dear friend of 36 years, Roger Mann.
Earl was a special man, truly a one of a kind leader in his company and more importantly a family man who put his family first, and cherished his time spent with them. National Vitamin Company is a family run business in which all his family is employed. He enjoyed an especially close relationship working with his son and daughter on a daily basis. Not only was he the head of the Courtney family, but also considered the employees of National Vitamin Company as his extended family.
Earl was always willing to help others and was a friend to many in his personal and business life. His family considers him their hero, whom they will miss tremendously.
J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud, The Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Monday, July 19 from 5:00 -7;00 at Cole & Maud, The Gardens Chapel. A service of remembrance will be Tuesday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Cole & Maud, The Gardens Chapel.
