Edward De Jong, 86, of Arizona City died on Feb. 19, 2017, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. De Jong was born on Dec. 5, 1930, to Lieuwe and Richtje De Jong in Friesland, the Netherlands.
He immigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1949 after World War II. He worked in various labor and sales jobs and moved to Minnesota, then Arizona and California. He retired in Arizona in 1989.
He and his wife of 62 years, Sadie, were seasoned world travelers having been to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua, Israel and many countries in Europe.
He was an outgoing, talkative person who would quickly befriend strangers. He was an owner-operator trucker for many years, buying and and selling milk cans and cream separators.
He was a member of Truckstop Ministries and of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Arizona City.
Survivors include his six children: Calvin of Arizona City, Jessie of Jerome, Idaho, Sandra of Simi Valley, California, Dan of Vail, David of Casa Grande and Mary of Fruitland, Idaho; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harry, of Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Viewing will be Thursday, February 23 at Evangelical Methodist Church, 14350 Overfield Rd., Arizona City at 12:00 p.m. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ernie Smith officiating. Burial to follow at Eloy Memorial Park in Eloy, Arizona.
