Elder Raymond Henry Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born in Washington, D.C., on January 26, 1947 to Robert and Mamie Davis and was the youngest of six children.
Raymond was a man of God who devoted his life to his faith, family, and community. He was known for his unwavering faith and trust in God, living each day with a mission to bring souls to Christ and provide spiritual guidance to everyone around him.
Raymond was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Diane Davis, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Tony Davis, Michael Davis, Darren Davis, Raymonda Matheka (son-in-love Solomon Matheka), and Diamond Davis. He is also survived by his nine cherished grandchildren (Andrea, Katrina, Charlotte, Darron, Katriana, Mckenzye, Hannah, Judah, and Noel), five great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-love (Claretta Davis and Neta Williams), his adoptive spiritual parents, Bishop Harvey and Gloria Lewis of Washington, D.C., his New Hope Community Church of God in Christ and Thrive Christian Ministries families, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, spiritual children, neighbors, and friends.
Raymond graduated from Phelps Vocational High School in Washington, D.C., and earned a bachelor's degree in Theology from National Bible College in Fort Washington, Md.
Raymond excelled in the field of engineering. One of his most cherished roles was at The Washington Post Newspaper Company where he retired after 28 years. Although engineering was his passion, everything changed on April 1, 1972, when the Lord Himself visited him at home, leading Raymond to devote his life to following Jesus. Raymond served with great distinction within the Church of God in Christ for over 50 years, holding roles such as deacon, elder, and Sunday school superintendent. However, he was best known for his service as the pastor of Zion Temple Church of God in Christ. If you knew Raymond, you knew his greatest passion was bringing souls to Christ and providing spiritual guidance to those around him. His tract ministry was second to none, and even in his final days, he could be found driving around his retirement community with tracts in his scooter basket, sharing the message of Jesus.
Raymond was a source of strength to many and an inspiration to all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and devotion.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, his life’s work and the countless lives he touched will continue to carry forward his legacy of faith, love, and service. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through them.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mamie Davis; his siblings, Robert A. Davis Jr., Robert Davis, Mollie Smith, Richard Davis, and Coranette Polk; and his son, Warren Davis.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Elder Raymond Henry Davis will be held on February 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Community Church of God in Christ in Coolidge, Arizona. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be streamed online here.
