BAPCHULE - Elizabeth Ann Ortega, 65, died on Dec. 30, 2019, at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center after battling lymphoma. She was diagnosed in May.
Mrs. Ortega was born on May 6, 1954, in Sacaton. In her early adult years, she was active with St. Peter Catholic Church, serving as prayer leader and guitar player for the choir. During that time, she made her cursillo at Mount Claret Retreat Center in Phoenix.
In her later years she became active with the traditional rosary group, traveling from village to village to share prayers and song. She also spent her time taking care of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by 10 siblings, Augustine Makil Jr., Benedict Makil, Mario Makil, Connie Makil, Gene Laws Sr., Bennett Lewis, Lorna Thomas, Mary Makil Garcia, Simon Makil and Annette Makil; her husband, Roy; five daughters and sons, Marcella Ortega, Loren Ortega, Roselda Ortega, Erica Ortega and Erick Ortega; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustine Makil and Essie C. Lyons Makil, and eight siblings, Thomas Makil Sr., Rita Ann Makil Valencia, Alexcine Makil Roy, Philbert Makil Sr., Delmer Makil, Elmer Makil, Richard Makil and Priscilla Makil.
