SACATON — Emma W. Smith, 95, of Sacaton died on March 29, 2011, at Caring House.
The wake will be from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at the District 3 Service Center. The graveside service will be at 7 a.m. Saturday in East Sacaton Cemetery. Pastor Randy Stone Jr. and Pastor John Jacobs Sr. will officiate.
Ms. Smith was born on Aug. 12, 1915, in Crownpoint, N.M., and was a daughter of Hoski and Nellie Wood. She was a court transcriber in Los Angeles for more than 25 years, then moved to Arizona and was an administrative secretary for the Cooperative Extension on the Gila River Indian Community for eight years. She was the last Native American to be adopted into the Gila River community, about 10 years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, Iva Lee Largo of Sacaton; two sisters, Clara Washee and Mae Roper of New Mexico; a stepsister, Irene Sky of New Mexico; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
