Erling H. Boggild

FLORENCE - Erling H. Boggild, 97, of Florence died Oct. 30, 2007 in Casa Grande.


Mr. Boggild was born Sept. 10, 1910 in Sommersville, Mass., to Alfred and Dagmar Boggild and was raised in Denmark. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio announcer in Luxembourg. After the war he moved to New York, where he met his wife of 65 years, Erna. He went back to Denmark and attended business college for two years before working as a salesman in the automotive industry.

He had a good singing voice and was a member of the choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Teaneck, N.J. He played the piano, was an avid tennis player and also played handball and soccer, winning several championships. The couple moved to Arizona in 1976 so they could play tennis year-round. He was devoted to his family.

Survivors include a daughter, AnneMarie Acosta of Florence; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His wife of 65 years died in 2005.

J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud Coolidge Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
