Eugene James Gilmartin Jr., 74, of Casa Grande died on April 8, 2012, at home.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel. The funeral will follow at 11. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Gilmartin was born on Jan. 11, 1938, in West Haven, Conn., and was a son of James Gilmartin Sr. and Elizabeth F. Ginty Gilmartin. He enlisted in the Army in 1955 and received Corps of Engineers training. He volunteered for the airborne and completed paratrooper training. He spent two years with the 11th Airborne Division in Germany and five more years in the Army Reserve. He graduated from Connecticut School of Electronics Engineering in 1961 and continued his studies at the University of Maryland and UCLA, graduating from the John E. Anderson Executive Management Program at the latter.
He joined Scientific Data Systems, a start-up computer company, in 1962. Seven years later the company merged with Xerox Corp. He transferred to Rockville, Md., where he met and married Marcia E. Homburg. He later returned to Southern California, where he spent the rest of his 38-year career with Xerox. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, sailing, desert dirt biking and camping with his family, in addition to coaching Pee Wee Hockey.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years; two daughters, Lori Gilmartin and Casey Crane; a son, Paul Gilmartin, all of Arizona; two sisters, Catherine Christensen and Constance Sasso of Connecticut; and two grandsons.
